MApp Fair Success

Our learning buddies presented their Math Apps to a panel of YRDSB guests yesterday and it was a great success! Students presented their proposals so proudly and with so much excitement. Ask your child to share the day's highlights with you.

June Big Ideas

Big Ideas In Our Learning For This Month…


Reading – We are learning to use a variety of reading strategies before, during and after we read. We are also learning to be text analyzers by looking at how texts we read, can change the way we think about certain issues and topics.

Writing – We are learning to add voice to our writing to match the purpose and audience of our writing pieces. We are learning to revise and edit our writing to clearly communicate our ideas and thinking. 

Oral –We are learning to present in a clear, loud and fluent voice with eye contact to our audience.

Media – 
We are learning to understand the features of an App. We are learning to identify the purpose, audience and messages media forms convey. We learning to develop a Math App proposal for a specific target audience and purpose and present it to a panel of experts.

Math – We will also be taking a look at mass, volume and capacity and how this measurement knowledge can be applied to our everyday lives.  

Science- We will be learning how human actions affect our environment and ecosystems. We will also be learning about pulleys and gears.

Social Studies – We are learning about Canada’s physical regions and how their features shape trade and natural resources.

Arts –We are learning how to use positive/negative space and proportion when drawing self-portraits.

Health – We will be learning about making healthy decisions regarding substances that can be harmful to our health.

As the warm weather approaches and greets us, we are reminded that summer break is just around the corner.

I cannot believe our time together is coming to a close and Chung Stars will soon be fifth graders!

It has been my pleasure to teach and work with all students and their families. We all have learned so much from each other!

Math – We are learning about three-dimensional and transformational geometry. We will also be taking a look at mass, volume and capacity and how this measurement knowledge can be applied to our everyday lives.  

Science- We will be learning how human actions affect our environment and ecosystems.

Social Studies – We are learning about Canada’s physical regions and how their features shape trade and natural resources.

Arts –We are learning to about the elements of dance and performing mini-dance routines with the elements that we learn. 

Health – We will be learning about making healthy decisions regarding substances that can be harmful to our health.

It is hard to believe that May has arrived! This month will shape up to be a busy one, as we have two field trips to attend. We will be going to York Region’s Water Festival and the Burlington Outdoor Education Center. These experiences will further extend our science knowledge in a hands-on manner.
