April's Big Ideas
Reading
– We are learning to use a
variety of reading strategies before, during and after we read. We learning to
infer while we read and support our inferences with our own ideas and text
evidence. We are also learning to be text analyzers by looking at how texts we
read, can change the way we think about certain issues and topics.
Writing
– We are learning to use
interesting sentences and word choice in our writing pieces. We are learning to
add voice to our writing to match the purpose and audience of our writing
pieces, especially when writing journal entries. We are learning to make strong
arguments to defend a point of view, when writing persuasive letters.
Oral –We are learning to present in a clear, loud and
fluent voice with eye contact to our audience.
Media – We are learning to understand the features of a variety of media texts. We are learning to identify the purpose, audience and messages media forms convey. We will also look into coding and how apps are made and designing a blue print for a math app we are trying to develop with our learning buddies.
Math
– We are learning to
represent parts of a whole using fractional names and benchmarks. We will also
be learning about the relationship between fractions and decimals and extending
our understanding to money.
Science- We will be beginning our new unit on habitats
and communities soon. We will be learning how human actions affect our
environment and ecosystems.
Social
Studies – We are
learning about Canada’s physical regions and how their features shape trade and
natural resources.
Arts –We are learning to about the elements of dance
and performing mini-dance routines with the elements that we learn.
Health – We are learning why eating healthy meals
are important to the growth and development of our bodies. We are learning to
identify nutrients in the meals we eat.

Welcome to April !
Dear
Families,
Welcome to
April!
I hope all
families had a fun and happy March break! March was a super busy month for our
Chung Stars with Wellness Week. Students learned a lot about how we can nourish
our body, mind and spirit. I hope they have shared with you all the new
strategies and tools we learned about living a positive healthy lifestyle.
As
a class, we are continuing to work hard and learn together for the rest of Term
2!
In this class update newsletter, you will
find important information about our class and the big ideas in our learning.
As always, if you any questions/concerns,
please do not hesitate to contact me at the school or write me a note in your
child’s agenda
Looking forward
to another exciting month of learning,
Ms. Chung
:)
