October's Big Ideas
Big Ideas In
Our Learning For This Month…
Reading – We are learning to be
meaning makers by determining and summarizing important ideas with supporting
details in a variety of texts.
Writing – We are learning to
generate ideas about a topic and order main ideas and supporting details that
could be used to develop a summary using graphic organizers.
Oral – We are learning to listen
to understand and respond appropriately in a variety of situations for a
variety of purposes.
Media – We
are learning to understand a variety of media texts and how media forms create
meaning.
Math – We are learning to read, represent, compare, and order
whole numbers to 10 000, decimal numbers to tenths. We are learning to solve problems
involving the addition, subtraction.
Science- We are learning to
investigate and understand the specific characteristics and properties of light
and sound.
Social Studies – We are learning to compare
and contrast ancient civilizations of the past with present day Canadian
Society.
Arts – We are learning to use the
elements and principles of design to create two-dimensional pieces of artwork.
Health

We are learning to identify risks associated with communications technology and
describe precautions and strategies for using these technologies safely.
