April's Big Ideas


Reading – We are learning to use a variety of reading strategies before, during and after we read. We learning to infer while we read and support our inferences with our own ideas and text evidence. We are also learning to be text analyzers by looking at how texts we read, can change the way we think about certain issues and topics.

Writing – We are learning to use interesting sentences and word choice in our writing pieces. We are learning to add voice to our writing to match the purpose and audience of our writing pieces, especially when writing journal entries. We are learning to make strong arguments to defend a point of view, when writing persuasive letters. 

Oral –We are learning to present in a clear, loud and fluent voice with eye contact to our audience.

Media – 
We are learning to understand the features of a variety of media texts. We are learning to identify the purpose, audience and messages media forms convey. We will also look into coding and how apps are made and designing a blue print for a math app we are trying to develop with our learning buddies. 

Math – We are learning to represent parts of a whole using fractional names and benchmarks. We will also be learning about the relationship between fractions and decimals and extending our understanding to money.

Science- We will be beginning our new unit on habitats and communities soon. We will be learning how human actions affect our environment and ecosystems.

Social Studies – We are learning about Canada’s physical regions and how their features shape trade and natural resources.

Arts –We are learning to about the elements of dance and performing mini-dance routines with the elements that we learn. 


Health – We are learning why eating healthy meals are important to the growth and development of our bodies. We are learning to identify nutrients in the meals we eat.
